Dart Barrel Shapes Guide
Barrel shape changes where a dart feels balanced and where your fingers naturally settle. The best shape is the one that lets you repeat the same grip without forcing your hand into position.
Straight barrels
Straight barrel darts keep a consistent diameter through most of the barrel. They suit many grip positions and are the most versatile place to start.
Tapered and torpedo barrels
Tapered darts narrow toward one end and can help guide finger placement. Torpedo darts have a fuller centre and often feel compact and stable.
Bomb and scalloped barrels
Bomb-shaped darts are short and rounded, while scalloped barrels include a recessed section that creates a clear reference point for the fingers.
Choosing a shape
Start with your natural grip position. Front grippers often prefer front-loaded or tapered profiles; centre grippers have the widest choice; rear grippers may benefit from a straight barrel or a defined rear grip zone.
