Dart Point Systems Explained: Compatibility Guide

Dart points are not universal. Before buying replacement points—or choosing a dart because its points are easy to change—identify the exact system used by the barrel. Standard press-fit points, threaded interchangeable points and ONE80 R2/Reflex components use different fitting methods. Some threaded systems offer cross-brand compatibility, but the exact point and barrel pairing must be checked. For any other proprietary system, follow the exact barrel and replacement-point instructions supplied for that model.

Compatibility rule: match the point to the barrel system first. Choose length, texture and finish only after compatibility is confirmed.

Standard press-fit dart points

Most conventional steel-tip darts use a point pressed into the barrel. Replacing one normally requires a suitable repointing tool or workshop service. Do not force a threaded or proprietary point system into a standard barrel.

Browse steel-tip dart points and compare the Bull's Pointman repointing tool after confirming the point and barrel are compatible.

Target Swiss Point darts

Swiss Point is Target's interchangeable point system. Target Swiss Point barrels accept Target Swiss Points or compatible Harrows Quick Points. Use the tool specified for the point fitted and check the exact point/barrel combination. The convenience is valuable only when the dart itself suits your weight, grip and barrel-shape needs.

Harrows Quick Point darts

Harrows Quick Point barrels accept Harrows Quick Points or compatible Target Swiss Points. Harrows Quick Points also fit compatible Target Swiss Point barrels. Use the tool specified for the point fitted and check the exact point/barrel combination. Standard press-fit points and original Caliburn EVO points are not direct replacements.

Browse Harrows Quick Point darts and check each product page for the supplied point and tool details.

Caliburn EVO Point darts

Distinguish original Caliburn EVO from EZ-EVO. Original EVO uses its own fitting components, including spigots for suitable barrel conversions, and is not a direct replacement for Swiss, Quick or standard press-fit points. EZ-EVO uses an M2.5 threaded point, but compatibility still depends on the exact barrel. Check the current point and barrel instructions rather than treating all EVO-labelled products as one system.

ONE80 R2, Reflex and other proprietary systems

ONE80 publishes distinct R2 replacement points, adaptors and tools. Match the component family and size shown for the barrel rather than assuming that every R2 or Reflex-labelled part is interchangeable.

Cross-brand threaded compatibility

Winmau explicitly lists Target Swiss Point, Harrows Quick Points and Caliburn EVO EZ Points as compatible with its current Michael van Gerwen SE Switch Point barrels. That statement applies to that model and should not be extended to every earlier Switch Point barrel. A shared thread size alone does not establish that a point will seat and lock correctly.

Physical compatibility is separate from a manufacturer's recommended system or warranty terms. Follow the exact point and barrel instructions and do not force or modify a mismatched fitting.

How point length and texture change the setup

  • Length: changes how much point sits beyond the barrel and can alter spacing around grouped darts.
  • Board texture: can change how firmly the point holds in the sisal.
  • Finger grip: textured points can give front-grip players another contact surface.
  • Overall feel: a point change can slightly alter the assembled dart, but it will not rescue a barrel that is the wrong weight or shape.

Change one variable at a time. If the barrel is still the main problem, compare steel-tip darts by weight, grip and barrel shape before tuning the point.

Dart point FAQs

Can I mix Swiss, Quick, EVO and R2 points?

Some threaded point-and-barrel combinations are compatible across brands, but this is not universal or necessarily reversible. Original Caliburn EVO, EZ-EVO and ONE80 R2/Reflex must be identified separately. Confirm the exact point, barrel version and tool before fitting.

Can I replace standard steel points myself?

Yes, with a compatible repointing tool and the correct point size. If you are unsure, use a professional service rather than damaging the barrel.

Are longer points better?

Not automatically. Longer points can change grouping clearance and board entry, but compatibility and a clean release matter first.

How do I know which point system my darts use?

Check the product title, specifications and supplied tool. When the system is not clearly identified, do not assume a replacement point will fit.
